Sinker EDM, also known as conventional EDM, die-sinking EDM, or cavity-type EDM, is a type of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) where a specially shaped electrode is used to "sink" into a workpiece, creating precise cavities and complex geometries.
Key Aspects of the Sinker EDM Process
Electrode
Unlike wire EDM, which uses a thin wire, sinker EDM relies on a solid electrode, typically made of graphite or copper. This electrode is custom-machined to match the inverse of the desired shape, allowing it to create intricate forms in the workpiece.
Process
The electrode and workpiece are submerged in a dielectric fluid, such as oil or a synthetic substitute, to control sparks and cool the work area. Machining Operation
