Vertical Turning Centre

A vertical turning centre is a type of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tool designed for turning operations with a vertical spindle orientation. In this configuration, the workpiece is mounted on a horizontal table that rotates vertically, allowing gravity to help stabilise the workpiece during machining. Vertical turning centres are well-suited for handling large, heavy, or asymmetrical parts that are difficult to mount horizontally.

A Vertical Turning Centre (VTC) is a robust, versatile CNC machine designed to perform complex turning and milling operations with high precision. These machines combine the functionality of traditional lathes with advanced milling capabilities, making them ideal for machining large, heavy workpieces. With cutting-edge automation and innovative design, VTCs enhance performance and productivity in demanding industries. They are supported by a wide range of cutting tools and accessories, providing flexibility for diverse applications. As a key component of modern machining centres, vertical turning centres deliver efficient, high-quality results, complemented by comprehensive service and support to ensure optimal functionality.

Key Points about Vertical Turning Centres

  • Vertical Orientation
In a vertical turning centre, the spindle is oriented vertically, and the workpiece is mounted on a rotating horizontal table, making it easier to handle bulky or heavy components.

  • Workpiece Stability
The vertical configuration allows for greater stability, especially for large or irregularly shaped workpieces, as gravity helps keep the part securely in place during machining.

  • Applications
Vertical turning centres are commonly used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and heavy equipment manufacturing to produce large cylindrical components, including wheels, hubs, brake discs, and flywheels.

  • Multi-Tool Capability
Like horizontal turning centres, vertical turning centres often come equipped with tool changers or turrets, allowing them to perform multiple operations (e.g., turning, facing, boring) in a single setup.
