CNC routers offer a world of possibilities for industrial purposes and hobbyists. As computer technology and miniaturisation has progressed, computer numerical control systems have become a ‘must have’ item in the home workshop. As well as creating turned parts, there is one group in Western Australia who have found another use: fundraising.

Thanks to Flecknoe, their industrial CNC routers have helped to manufacture 900 wooden toy animals. As reported on the Canning Times website, the 900 animals will include bears, wolves, and elephants. All the profits will raise funds for Western Australia Scouts. The toys will be ready for Christmas.

Flecknoe Pty are one of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of CNC equipment, from CNC routers to milling machines. They are members of the Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute (AMTIL). Its Managing Director, Philip Kitney, is a senior member of the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE). He has been a member of the SPE since 1994.

The Canning Men’s Shed has received A$2,700 from Scouts WA. A further A$500 has been granted by the City of Canning.

Canning Men’s Shed is one of several Men’s Sheds seen around the world. They enable senior males to take up new hobbies and change their outlook on life. As well as learning new skills, they improve self esteem.

We at Stoney CNC, over 10,000 miles away from Canning Men’s Shed, wish them every success in their venture. Plus we hope the wooden toys give their new owners some joy once they open their presents.
